Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put batteries in the bin?
No. Batteries should not be placed in a dumpster bin. They are considered hazardous or special waste and can create fire risk if crushed or damaged. They should be taken to an approved battery drop-off location or community recycling centre instead.
Can I throw out paint, stain, solvents, or household chemicals?
No. Paint, stain, solvents, and many household chemicals should be kept out of the bin. These materials are typically treated as household hazardous waste and need to be dropped off through an approved hazardous waste or recycling program.
Are propane tanks, fuel canisters, or other pressurized containers allowed?
No. Propane tanks and other pressurized containers should never be placed in the bin, even if they seem empty. These items require special handling and must be taken to an approved hazardous waste or recycling depot.
Can I put appliances in the bin?
Some appliances require special handling, so please check with us first. Large appliances are often handled through appliance or metal recycling programs, and items containing refrigerants, such as fridges, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and water coolers, must be disposed of properly under Ontario rules.
